Every morning David Quarterman takes his three dogs, Sheba, Cody, and Cush to play fetch at a recreational area near his home in Savannah, Georgia. But this was anything but your normal day.

The dogs had worn themselves out, so they went to cool off in a nearby creek. David went to put the ball back in the truck when all of the sudden he heard a painful yelp coming from the water. He knew exactly what was happening.

Without having a moment to process, he sprinted into the water, which was about chest high, when an alligator popped up with his 70-pound labrador retriever, Sheba, in its mouth.

David said:

“When that gator raised up out of the water with my dog in his mouth, he looked like something out of a Hollywood horror movie.”

So what did he do? He punched that gator in the eye.

The gator only had Sheba in its mouth for a few seconds, he told reporters. If the water had been any deeper, things might not have turned out as well as they did.

When asked if he felt like a hero, Quarterman said:

“That adrenaline thing came over me. I think most people would have done the same thing.”

WHAT? That “adrenaline” thing? Sir, you just punched a gigantic alligator (but let’s be honest alligators are basically dinosaurs) in the FACE. If I even kill a spider in my apartment I walk around for days like this:

While Sheba suffered puncture wounds to stomach, back and ear, she is currently recovering and will be back to playing fetch in no time. I think she’s going to pass on taking a swim in and creeks any time soon though.
