Canine Soprano Amazes In Dramatic Squeak Toy Opera

Move over, Dame Joan Sutherland; there’s a new top dog in opera! Singing the role of Lucia from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, a bright young talent has burst into the limelight.

Debuting on YouTube, we hear the honey-voiced hound performing Lucia’s famous Mad Scene, “Il dolce suono” (“The Sweet Sound”).

Replete with demented emotion, this rendition puts the astonishing mordents of the diva at center stage. Listeners cannot help but be impressed by the incredibly agile runs and more complex ornamentation present.

Captured brilliantly is the madness of Lucia, the pained insensibility and delusion she feels. Not since Sutherland herself wowed audiences at the Royal Opera have we heard such a breathtaking debut in the role.

Here we discover a great new voice of modern opera, a soprano possessing a strong tone coupled with rare technical ability. Is this the voice Donizetti heard when he composed Lucia? Or does this supplant bel canto entirely, ushering in the new age of bow canto?

Oh, it’s just a dog with a squeaker in her mouth?? ….Never mind then.

We hope you enjoyed tonight’s edition of Bark After Dark, the one-stop-shop for all your insane-in-the-canine, cuckoo-for-cocoa-ruffs, barking mad needs!
