What could be better than a TV show about a woman and her dog? How about… a show that narrates everything about the woman’s life from the dog’s point of view?
This is exactly what ABC’s latest comedy Downward Dog has done. Based on the web series of the same name, the show follows the misadventures of a struggling millennial named Nan — all told from the perspective of her lonely and philosophical dog, Martin.
In the show’s trailer, Martin himself even admits how needy he can be, going so far as to destroy Nan’s presentation for work when she “finds someone else to play with.”
While the show also touches on the plights of being a single millennial, Downward Dog ultimately explores the unconditional love between a dog and a human.
As Nan tells her coworkers in the trailer after the presentation debacle, “I was so, so angry. I was looking at him and I realized every day, he still looks at me like I am the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.”
Just like the trailer says, in this dog-eat-dog world, you can’t find a better friend. Even if it is one that, you know, destroys an important presentation that you slaved over.
Downward Dog premieres midseason on ABC. Until then, check out the trailer below:
