DIY 101: A No-Sew Dino Dog Hoodie For Halloween
Feature 1

I’ll just say it, there are few things more adorable than a dog in a hoodie. One thing that might take the cake, however, is a dog in a dinosaur hoodie. Halloween is rapidly approaching, so I thought this would be the perfect time to unleash a fun and simple DIY costume that will keep your pup cozy and cute.

Step 1

Materials

– 1 dog hoodie (I got these at American Apparel)
– 2 swatches of felt in an accent color
– 1 swatch in a different shade of your hoodie’s color
– 1 white felt swatch
– 1 black felt swatch
– 1 swatch in a darker shade of the hoodie color
– Hot glue gun & glue sticks
– Scissors and/ or a rotary fabric cutter
– Clipboard (useful, but not necessary)

Step 1

Lay a piece of the accent felt along the back of the hoodie so you can judge where and how big you would like your plates to be. Either just eyeballing it or using a pencil to sketch some guidelines, plot your plates and use a rotary cutter (or scissors) to cut them out. Be sure not to cut the whole way around, leave the base of each plate attached.

Step 2

Trim the edges of your felt square to make it fit inside the hoodie easily.

Step 2

Stretch the hoodie taut around a clipboard or a piece of cardboard, lie the felt along the back of the hoodie and flip your plates out of the way, using your rotary cutter create small dashes in the fabric of your hoodie along the base of each plate.

Slip the felt piece inside of the hoodie and, one-at-a-time, pull each plate through the corresponding hole.

Step 3

If you like, you can use the same process and a smaller piece of felt to add a few plates to the hood as well.

Step 3

Use your other swatches of felt to cut out these shapes (or whatever shapes!) to create eyes for your dinosaur. I went with…calm? Sleepy? Stoned? Not sure.

Step 4

Use your hot glue gun to first glue the pieces of the eyes together and then onto the hood. Take your time finding proper placement for the eyes and ensuring that they are evenly placed on each side.

Step 4

Complete your dinosaur with nostrils (just cut out a coupla’ commas) and a nice set of chompers.
