Dog In Wheelchair Explores The Country With New Adoptive Parents

Despite being in a wheelchair, 8-year-old Pitbull Mel is the happiest dog on Instagram.

Ever since Mel was adopted from the Yonkers Animal Shelter by photographer Tom Dilworth, he’s had the chance to explore the country and experience the love of a family.

“We went to the Yonkers Animal Shelter to see another dog when we noticed Mel,” Dilworth told The Dodo. “I had stopped for a moment when he then placed his head on my leg. Well, that was it!”

Though Mel wasn’t in a wheelchair at the shelter, Dilworth noticed that Mel’s balance was off. The doctors later diagnosed him with a neurological disease, rendering him wheelchair-bound henceforth.

“If he knows he’s different, he does not let it show,” Dilworth said. “He still thinks he can walk and often gets up and tries. Once he is in his wheels, watch out or he will roll over your feet!”

Now that Mel can carelessly walk around in his wheelchair, he has the pleasure of exploring the world with his dad, who photographs for a living. It is a blessing for Mel — and for us — that every moment Mel and his dad spend together gets photographed.
