9 Ways To Tell Your Dog Is Your Significant Other

The internet is crawling with self help blog posts on how to build and maintain a healthy relationship with your SO. Browsing through all the supposed signs of true love, it quickly occurred to me that my dog and I had already mastered each one. (Except of course the intimacy ones, cuz that’s just creepy)

So single dog moms and dads rejoice, you may have already found your perfect life pawtner. How many of these healthy relationship signs do you and your pup share?

so bedtime

1. You Go To Bed At The Same Time

I don’t know about you, but my dog is ready for an impromptu nap or a good night’s snooze at a moment’s notice. Whether I’m nursing a cold or just feeling lazy, he’s perfectly content to pull up a pillow next to me and catch some Z’s.

so interests

2. You Share Common Interests.

We already know that we share one major common interest with our pups – dogs! And really, who doesn’t love their dogs’ favorite past times? Eating, sleeping, and going for walks are universally enjoyable. You may not have a passion for squeeky toys, but 3 out of 4 ain’t bad!

3. You Walk Side By Side.

Most of us look forward to our daily walks or outings at the park. It’s the perfect opportunity to escape the daily grind, gather our thoughts, take in the fresh air, listen to the birds chirp and enjoy each other’s company.

4. You Trust Each Other.

Stop and think for a moment. We put our trust in our dogs’ hands every day, and vice versa. We trust that our dogs would never turn on us or our families. We trust them to alert us if there is danger nearby. In return, our pups trust us for absolutely everything. Their very survival is in our hands, and they have faith that we will never let them down.

so awkward

5. You Focus On The Positive In One Another.

When you truly love someone you overlook their flaws. Our dogs don’t judge us when we dance around in our underwear or put on a few pounds at the holidays. In return, we look the other way when they lick their privates or get a little gassy after dinner.

6. You Greet Each Other With Affection.

If you ever meet a human being who greets you at the door as eagerly as your pooch does, marry that person! Nothing brightens a hard day or makes you smile faster than a wiggly fuzzbutt showering you with unabashed affection.

7. You Play Together.

Our dogs give us the opportunity to act like silly kids again. Not only is it fun to watch the joy in our dogs’ eyes as they gallop through the yard with reckless abandon, it’s good for us to take a break from the serious once in a while.

8. You Support Each Other’s Dreams.

Dogs don’t care if you live in a mansion or a studio apartment, as long as you’re happy. When we pursue our dreams we feel fulfilled and energized, and our pups can sense those good vibes. As for our dogs’ aspirations – I’m pretty sure their dreams came true when they found their furever homes with us!

so carry me

9. You Are Proud To Be Seen Together

There’s no one in the world your pup would rather walk down the street with. And who among us doesn’t beam with pride when a hooman exclaims “Aw! Your dog is so cute!”? I’ll take it a step further and say that I take it as a personal insult when folks at the dog park fail to recognize my gorgeous, intelligent, talented pooch. I think he’s a great catch, and he feels the same about me!
