Prince Harry has worn many labels in the public eye – heartthrob, troublemaker, ambassador of peace, and role model to name a few. Recently Harry revealed our favorite of his personas- caring dog lover.
On a week-long tour of South Africa and Lesotho, the prince dedicated new buildings at a children’s center to his late mother, Princess Diana, met with the famous social rights activist Desmond Tutu, and visited the children of Grassroots Soccer South Africa – an organization that seeks to promote HIV awareness in high risk youth.
As he arrived at an engagement with Surfers Not Street Children which mentors formerly homeless youngsters as they transition into adulthood, Harry met Jasper the Hound mix. Rather than just passing by, the prince crouched down and made the formal acquaintance of the adorable pooch with a paw-shake.
A similar story appeared on marieclaire.com last week after Harry ditched his security detail to get some face time in with the talented canine winner of Britain’s Got Talent. Matisse The Dog’s owner remarked that “Harry was sweet and lovely…and gave Matisse the royal seal of approval.”
Rumors are flying that Harry may soon join the ranks of hunky dog dads thanks to his Sister-in-law, Kate Middleton. Reports say she has been researching Yellow Lab pups for the prince’s Christmas gift! Harry may not have a pooch to call his own (yet), but it seems safe to say that he is definitely one of us- a certified doggy devotee!
