Serena Williams’ Instagram is full of photos of the athlete’s amazing life. Most adorably, are the photos of her three dogs, who seem to do everything with the tennis star.

Tragically, Serena’s 16 year old dog named Jackie passed away yesterday. Jackie had been a member of Serena’s family since 1999 and was with Serena when she won her first Grand Slam.

Serena wrote a moving tribute to her best friend on Instagram:

Today really is hard for me. My special friend in which I got at 17 (2 weeks before I won my very first Grand Slam) left me today. She was 16 years young and up until a few days ago was still sprinting. Her poor body gave out this morning and she had a way of telling me it was time for me to be brave and let her go. With my dad by my side we were able to say a loving goodbye. She was with me from 1999 until today and I miss her so much. I got out of the shower this afternoon and she was not there to lick my leg as she always did everyday to remind me how much she loved me. I feel so lucky to have such a special friend. Give your dog, cat, pet a big hug. #breakingheart #bff Jackie Baila Pete Williams I will miss you and your memory will live forever.

Since that initial post, she has made two other posts about Jackie. In one, she simply refers to her dog as her angel – a term which I know many pup owners use to refer to the furry loves of their lives. The simple caption truly captures the devastating grief of losing a dog.

Serena isn’t the only one missing the sweet pooch. Jackie had two other doggie siblings named Lauralei and Chip. The pair are missing their sweet friend as much as their human is.

Thankfully, this family has each other to cuddle with. Our thoughts are with Serena and her family. Let’s go and snuggle our pups a bit extra today.
