Thanksgiving is one of the most family-oriented holidays that we celebrate! So why not include your entire family, including your four-legged member? Here are some Thanksgiving table scraps that will make your pup pretty barking happy during the big meal. Just remember – moderation is key!
1. Turkey
According to PetMD, turkey can be an excellent source of protein for your pup and a tasty treat! Stick to white meat and avoid skin, bones, and fat which are not only bad for your dog but also choking hazards.
2. Green Beans
Vegetables are just as good for dogs as they are for humans! However, stick to the plain beans. A lot of times green beans can be baked into casseroles, which may have ingredients that aren’t great for your dog. Make sure that you are conscious of the other fixings, or set aside some plain beans just for your pup.
3. Mashed potatoes
Plain mashed potatoes are just fine for dogs! However, if you add in butter, sour cream, or onions, keep the mashed away from Fido. Onions and garlic are toxic to pups and butter and cream can upset your dog’s stomach. Stick to a small helping of plain taters’ and you’re good to go!
4. Cranberry Sauce
According to PetMD, cranberry sauce is okay for pups but only in very small amounts. Give your pup just a lick of the spoon, because typically canned cranberry sauce contains a lot of sugar, which isn’t good for your four-legged friend.
5. Mac and Cheese
If you know that your dog is okay with lactose, a small amount of mac and cheese is okay, although if it’s super cheesy (the best kind!) you may want to skip it. Since lactose isn’t a typical part of a dog’s diet, it can easily upset their stomach.

6. Carrots
Again, veggies are great for dogs, especially in their natural form! Roasted carrots are just fine, but if your family tends to spruce up their side dishes with lots of tasty spices, then make sure you check and make sure all of the fixings are okay for Fido to have.
7. Sweet Potatoes
There is no reason your doggy can’t have sweet potatoes, but you should definitely use moderation in this case. Sweet potatoes are just that – sweet. Too much sugar will give your pup an upset stomach. Also, if you make the fancy sweet potatoes with marshmallows and other exciting things, skip this for your furry buddy.
8. Pumpkin
A lot of dogs LOVE pumpkin! However, that doesn’t mean your pup should be eating pumpkin pie, or other desserts that have the ingredient in it. Some pumpkin pie recipes call for nutmeg, which can cause seizures in dogs! If you’re using plain pumpkin puree for your Thanksgiving meal, give your pup some before adding it into your recipes (make sure it’s unsweetened). Some bigger pups love playing with small, raw pumpkins as well, and they are totally safe as long as they aren’t rotten!
9. Rolls
As long as it’s not raw dough, a roll is fine to give to your pup. Bread is fine for pups in moderation, but when bread dough is ingested before being cooked, the heat in your pup’s body will cause it to rise, which can lead to vomiting and diarrhea.
10. Corn
As long as the corn isn’t on the cob, it is fine for your doggy in small doses. However, a pup will treat corn on the cob as a bone, and will probably wind up chewing it until they can consume the cob, which isn’t good to ingest, and could be a choking hazard.
