Calling all wiener dog enthusiasts far and wide!
They say “every dog has its day.” And yet it feels like Dachshunds a.k.a. “wiener dogs” a.k.a. “hot dogs” a.k.a. “sausage dogs” constantly get overlooked by other breeds.
Known for their slim physique and short stature, Dachshunds were bred to hunt small animals like rabbits and badgers. Fun Fact: The word Dachshund literally mean dachs (badger) and hund (hound) in German. If you love a breed with a lot of variety Dachshunds are for you as they come in short-haired, long-haired, wire-haired and in a wide range of colors. But plain and simple wiener dogs are truly adorbz. Aren’t they just the cutest?
If you love wiener dogs as much as us then you must know about the amazing artwork of Laura Hoffman, who is a photographer, designer and an illustrator based in Southern California. She also holds a MFA in Art and is an adult education instructor of photography and design. As Hoffman’s Facebook page states, she loves “to draw and make pictures that add humor, delight & whimsy to life.”
Hoffman’s latest exhibition, perfectly titled “Unleashed!” portrays wiener dogs front and center. Hoffman uses her own dog, Sarah, and her sister’s dog, Riley, as muses. Her paintings feature the active and fun lives of wiener dogs as they run and snuggle with their favorite humans.
If you’re curious to see Hoffman’s exhibition and you are in the Los Angeles area then you’re in luck! Take a trip to the Atrium Gallery in Fullerton, CA and see some sausage dog paintings in all their astounding glory. But don’t delay – The last day to see the exhibit is May 27th!
Hooray for wiener dogs!
