When I adopted Chester my senior year of college, the local shelter told me he was a 4-year-old girl named Cookie. Wrong, wrong, aaand wrong. Turns out HE was closer to 8, heartworm positive, and suffering from pneumonia and malnourishment. Needless to say, you learn a LOT and FAST taking care of a high needs dog as a poor college student. But we’ve always managed – through graduating college, moving to NYC together, and eventually winding up at the most dog crazy place on the planet.
