10 Animated Dog Shorts That Should Have Won Human Oscars

The recent Academy Awards got us thinking about animated shorts, specifically dog ones because, well, we’re always thinking about dogs here. We scoured the World Wide Web to bring you the best animated dog shorts, so you and your pup could spend a nice weekend morning watching all of them in bed!

1. “Steadfast Stanley” by John Cody Kim

This new-agey short incorporates the whole apocalypse trend that’s happening in the media right now and spins a wonderful feel good story out of it. Also, it stars a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who refuses to quit!

2. “Take Me Home” by Nair Archawattana

Clocking in at under five minutes, this touching film manages to succinctly pack a punch by giving you the dog’s perspective in an animal shelter. Don’t worry though — it has a puppily ever after.

3. “Adam and Dog” by Minkyu Lee

A fictional short about a dog in Eden, the director turns back the clock by weaving a story about how those first days of Creation created an inseparable bond between Man and Dog.

4. “Omelette” by Madeline Sharafian

This is just proof of how super and sweet and special and loving dogs can be. We totally get it if you blame your tears on the “onions.”

5. “Out of Sight” by Yu Ting Ya, Ya Hsuan Yeh, Chung Ling

Talk about a double whammy. This story will put you on a small, short, emotional roller coaster and leave you feeling like showering the first pup you see with all the love in your heart.

6. “Unexpected” by Yanmotion

It’s just another day in the park for these two buddies, except this time, they’re in a for a rich surprise! Watch it to find out what the surprise is!

7. “Dinner” from Birdbox Studio

There’s something special about simple humor. The animation is basic in the best way possible, and the story is pretty darn adorkable, too. Adorkable pets unite, amirite?!

8. “Dug’s Special Mission” by Pixar

Dug of “Up” Fame gets to star in his very own short! ROOORAY! Plus, it features his trademark naivety that you just can’t help but love.

9. “Lanky Lampton: A Silly Idea — Dog” by Muk Puddy

It’s not a true animated short, in the sense that Lanky Lampton is actually a series on YouTube. However, we couldn’t not add this humorous clip to the list. It may be a cartoon, but it will resonate with dog lovers everywhere. Do we hear a WOOF, WOOF?!

10. “My Dog Tulip” by Paul and Sandra Fierlinger

Based off of J.R. Ackerley’s 1956 memoir of the same name, this is a wonderful, sweet story about the love between an elderly gentleman and his dog.

While this isn’t a short, this movie needed to be included because it is seriously PUPTASTIC! And you must watch it, so here’s the link to the film.

With this, we bid you adieu on your short-watching endeavors. If you have any shorts in my mind, please do share them in the comments section below!
