When you think of Florida, you are likely to think of palm trees and white sandy beaches. But Florida has so much more to offer dog parents including unique hiking trails, dog-friendly stores, accommodations and water-front dining.

1. Davis Island Dog Beach

This dog beach welcomes dogs off leash to have their fun in the sun! Davis Island Dog Beach has two fenced in areas and wonderful views of nearby Peter O. Knight Airport and Downtown Tampa. Doggie water stations and picnic tables make for a comfortable way to get cool from the Florida heat with friendly dogs and people! There is also a separate “dry” area overlooking the ocean for dogs that want to get away from the crowds or who aren’t fans of water.

3. Little Manatee River State Park

Little Manatee River State Park is what Florida was before strip malls and traffic. It is one of the few rivers in Florida that was never significantly dredged or altered by canals or mining operations. Hike into the woods with your dog overlooking the Manatee River and maybe even catch a glimpse of the beautiful sea cows that this park is named after. There are two looped trails offering three and six mile options. Make sure to bring lots of bug spray and water for both you and your dog.
